Managing Director Caroline Platt is playing a leading role in supporting plans to bring North Wales’ first multibank to the region, an initiative aimed at making a meaningful difference to families across Wrexham and the wider North Wales area.

The project seeks to establish a central hub designed to redistribute new, surplus essential goods to charities and community organisations that support people in need. By bringing together businesses, charities and local leaders, the initiative aims to address practical challenges facing families while also reducing waste and encouraging collaboration across the region.

A commitment shaped by experience

At Platts Agriculture, community has always played an important role in how the business operates. As a company rooted in the local area, there is a strong belief in working collaboratively and supporting initiatives that create long-term, positive change.

The idea of supporting a multibank in North Wales was influenced by Caroline’s involvement in a charity trek in the Himalayas, where she was introduced to the multibank concept through conversations with other business leaders and charitable organisations. Seeing first-hand how collaborative models can provide practical support to communities prompted further discussion around how a similar approach could work closer to home.

This focus on combining business insight with social impact is not new. Caroline and the wider Platts team have long supported initiatives that help people overcome barriers and access opportunity, including ongoing involvement with Wrexham-based youth charity WeMindTheGap, which supports young people aged 11 to 25 who face challenges in education, employment and training.

Providing practical support where it matters

The multibank model focuses on redistributing brand-new surplus items such as clothing, bedding, toiletries and household essentials. These goods are provided by businesses and distributed through trusted local charities and support services, ensuring they reach individuals and families who may be facing challenging circumstances.

Access to everyday essentials can make a significant difference, helping to ease financial pressure and provide reassurance at times of uncertainty. Supporting this approach also strengthens existing community networks, ensuring help is delivered in a dignified and respectful way.

Working together to make a difference

Discussions are continuing around how a multibank could operate effectively in North Wales, drawing on experience from similar initiatives elsewhere. Early pilot activity has already highlighted the potential of this collaborative approach, with local charities gaining access to much-needed resources through coordinated efforts.

The project demonstrates what can be achieved when businesses, charities and community organisations align around a shared purpose, using their collective expertise to support those most in need.

Looking ahead

Work is ongoing to explore how a permanent multibank could be established in North Wales, with a strong focus on sustainability, partnership and long-term impact. The aim is to develop a model that not only supports families today, but continues to serve the community well into the future.

For Caroline and the team at Platts Agriculture, this initiative reflects a wider belief that leadership extends beyond the workplace. Supporting projects that strengthen communities, encourage cooperation and create opportunity remains an important part of building a resilient future for the region where we live and work.
